Overview of Computer-assisted Interviewing Data Quality Test
Before implementing Computer-Assisted Interviewing (CAI) to the Labour Force Survey, the Data Quality Test was conducted in the second half of 1992. The test measured the possible impact of the transition from paper and pencil interviewing (PAPI) to CAI on the labour force series, data quality, interviewing cost and collection operations. The test was conducted for 7 months with about 2100 households being interviewed each month. The conclusion from the test was that when implemented, CAI would not have a discernible impact on the series, quality or cost. The observed operational problems could be remedied through hardware and software changes. With these recommendations and experience, CAI was implemented in the Labour Force Survey in November 1993.
