The Small Area Data Program
Statistics Canada initiated the Small Area Data Program in response to the increasing demand for statistical information about local areas. The Program represents a departure from the traditional approaches to developing and disseminating statistical data. The primary focus is on providing data on diverse subjects for local areas. This paper outlines the objectives of the Program and the requirements that formed the basis for its development and implementation. It also illustrates the fact that old-fashioned data concepts and existing systems and data sources can be revitalized for new applications.
