In spite of the admiration excited, and of the fact that the picture of the year Was bought by the Queen, the young painter fled from the scene of his brilliant de'but, and, during a residence of some years in Paris, gained from study and practice an increase in technical skill, and from Ary Scheffer an addition of sentiment.
