The UKIYO-E 2020 historic exhibition catalogue brings together masterpieces from Japan's three great ukiyo-e collections in one volume. This book is the exhibition catalogue for UKIYO-E 2020, which was held in the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum from June 23 to September 22, 2020. This exhibition holds great significance because, for the first time ever, masterpieces from the Ōta Memorial Museum of Art, Japan, the Ukiyo-e Museum, and the Hiraki Ukiyo-e Foundation, museums holding the three great collections of ukiyo-e in Japan both in quality and volume, were showcased together. This volume features 450 carefully selected ukiyo-e prints from the 17th to 19th centuries, offering superb coverage of the world's ukiyo-e masterpieces. Major works by some 60 artists are represented, covering the history of ukiyo-e. This book is not only timeless keepsake of an historic exhibition, but is also extremely valuable as the premier source covering the complete history of ukiyo-e.

Masterpieces of Japanese Prints

Ukiyo-e are Japanese woodblock prints and this book contains nearly 100 examples reproduced in full colour. Subjects covered include scenes of everyday life as well as that of geishas and courtesans and range from dramatic theatrical moments to carefully observed studies of plants and animals.
